Performance Insight

People who perform at the highest level are those who have both insight into themselves and an understanding of how others see them. Using an innovative narrative format, Performance Insight tells them whether the messages they intend to send are the messages received.

People that use traditional 360º feedback know that only assigning ratings to behaviors results in lukewarm feedback at best. There are numerous reasons why traditional 360º feedback is often not effective, but leading the way, is the rater's inability to provide explanation for his or her ratings. In addition, simple ratings, without the ability to explain oneself, often result in severe "halo effect." When the results are in, there is generally little variance in results from one person to the next.

Select International has developed an approach to 360º feedback that allows respondents to freely voice their perceptions. The narrative 360¼ doesn't only ask for ratings or scores. In order to gather the most meaningful data, respondents are also asked to provide narrative descriptions of the behavior they witness in key performance areas. This approach is powerful because the respondent has the ability to provide reasons and examples of why a rating was assigned at a particular level, resulting in an increase in accuracy.

The Performance Insight narrative format offers the feedback that everyone craves – it tells them how others truly feel about their behavior. It becomes a critical component in executing an effective developmental plan.

How Performance Insight™ Works

  • A brief competency analysis identifies the behaviors that are important to the position.
  • A questionnaire is created around those competencies identified as most important.
  • The client chooses the responders to complete the questionnaire anonymously.
  • An e-mail invitation to complete the questionnaire is automatically sent to the responders e-mail address along with their personal ID # and URL.
  • When the last response arrives, a Select assessor review the data and paraphrases explanations so that the results cannot be traced back to the respondents.
  • The final report combines ratings with a narrative explanation of how others perceive the participant's performance in key areas.
