Retention Strategy
When it comes to retaining employees, Select International addresses this issue before the individual is even hired. One of the main reasons for turnover, whether voluntary or involuntary, is a poor fit between the individual and the job or the organization. Spending the time during the selection process to assess someone's fit can increase retention/decrease turnover.
How do we do this? Select International has stayed abreast of academic research and conducted our own studies to identify the best ways to assess how closely someone's personal characteristics and preferences match those of the job and/or organization. When you work with Select International, we will use our expert knowledge in this area to build assessment tools into each phase of your selection process.
For example, one of our RPO clients is a large manufacturing organization. They began to use our services when they had a need to hire a large number of hourly workers for their plant start-up. We designed a process where, during the application process, candidates were asked questions related to position specific job characteristics (e.g., work schedule preference, willingness to work outside). By addressing specific "fit" issues up front, valuable time was not spent processing candidates who were a poor fit. In addition to questions during the application phase, all candidates were given online assessment tools that measure personal characteristics, work preferences and skills. Candidates who met all of these requirements were asked to participate in a production exercise or work simulation. The fit benefits at this phase were two-fold; first, it provided a realistic job preview, which means that candidates had an opportunity to get a hands-on look at what the job would be like. Secondly, the production exercise measured their skills and abilities to perform that type or work. Individuals who do not match the job well in terms of skills are unlikely to perform well or enjoy the job, thus increasing chances of turnover. Lastly, the final interview contained additional questions around fit to ensure that new hires were comfortable with the demands of the job in terms of location, work hours, compensation and skills.
We know that every client has different needs.
