Five Key Findings About Healthcare Human Capital

doctors.jpgThe Aberdeen Group has published its report, Managing and Leading Human Capital in 2015 and Beyond A Healthcare Perspective.

The data/results confirm what we see with our clients:

  • 86% of healthcare organizations agree that talent plays a critical role in determining their patient satisfaction scores. “When organizations fail to prioritize talent, they jeopardize the patient experience and, ultimately, the corporate brand.”

  • “Strong leadership is likely the single most important driver of overall organizational performance.”

  • The top three important leadership competencies:

    • Cultivating a culture of excellence in care and service delivery

    • Executing organizational strategy

    • Coaching and developing others

  • Leading organizations are more than 4x more likely to also emphasize “fostering creativity and innovation.”

  • Leading organizations are nearly 60% more likely to use post-hire assessments for on-going development and performance management discussions.

Based on these results, your organization should be asking a few important questions:

  1. How do your talent strategies support the creation of a patient-centric culture?

  2. How effective are you at selecting and identifying leaders with the necessary behavioral skills?

  3. Are you making the most of leadership assessments as part of your leadership succession and development efforts?

Are you comfortable with the answers to these questions? The big-picture challenges of redesigning the care delivery system to provide value-based care, in combination with the daily operational challenges often means that talent strategies continuously fall down the priority list. As this report points out, though, all of those efforts are hampered if your talent strategies don’t support the long-term goals.
