Select International Assists Pittsburgh Area "At-Risk" Teens Preparing to Enter the Job Market This Spring

- Mock Job Interviewing Sessions Allow Students in the Alternative Center for Education (ACE) Program at Parkway West Career and Technology Center Rehearse Before the Real Thing -

Pittsburgh, February 26, 2007 - Pittsburgh-based Select International, a global provider of human resource assessment solutions, is empowering nearly 40 "at-risk" high school seniors (enrolled in the Alternative Center for Education program) at Parkway West Career and Technology Center who are preparing to enter the work force upon graduation this spring. Through a special course titled "English and Employment," students will participate in two job interview preparation sessions (Tuesday, February 27 and Wednesday, March 7) designed and delivered by Select International consultants.

"These young people are already working to overcome challenges - either at home, at school, or both - and they may not know what awaits them as they prepare to enter the work force," said Doug Wolf, Vice President of Consulting Services for Select International. "Our program arms them with the right tools so they can increase their chances of securing a good job."

In the first session (Tuesday, February 27), Wolf will lead a 45-minute instructional workshop designed to teach the students crucial job interviewing skills. Topics to be covered include common interviewing methods, the different phases of a job interview, sample interview questions, and "Do’s and Don’ts" during a job interview.

"Whether our students aspire to be mechanics, cosmetologists, or public safety professionals, they need to know what to expect in a job interview," reflected Betsy Villiotti, the course instructor at Parkway West Career and Technology Center. "We are thrilled that Doug Wolf and his team at Select International are willing to share their expertise with our seniors at such a critical time in their academic careers."

During the second session (Wednesday, March 7), a team of Select International consultants will conduct 30-minute individual mock interviews with each student in the class and provide constructive criticism that will enable each student to score higher during the real thing. This "real world" scenario with interviewer (the consultant) and interviewee (the student) is a dress rehearsal for the actual job interview, where people are rarely given a second chance.

This is the fifth year that Select International has partnered with the Parkway West Career and Technology Center to offer these job interviewing workshops to Villioti's students. Students will be exposed to the same interviewing techniques Select International has used to help Global 2000 companies identify, hire and retain the best people for their organizations.
