Select International Introduces the Next-Generation of Assessment with “Virtual Job Auditions®”
Pittsburgh, June 27, 2006 - How much do you know about a job before you actually begin working for the company? How do you know if you are suited for the position? Employers encounter the same questions when they are trying to select the most highly skilled candidates for important positions in their companies. Select International, a leading provider of human resource assessment solutions for Global 2000 companies, is breaking new ground by introducing the next-generation of assessment technology - Virtual Job Auditions® (VJAs®).
“We believe this unique approach will replace standard tests currently being used in the industry to uncover qualified job candidates,” said Kevin Klinvex, Executive Vice President and Co-founder of Select International. “VJAs are a much more accurate and realistic way to assess people.” The Virtual Job Audition allows an employer to create an authentic job environment that can capture more of what a person does and feels on the job. A VJA is more than just web-based assessments. When applying a virtual job audition approach to the hiring process, every aspect is designed to be a virtual simulation of the job. Key characteristics of the VJA process include:
- Candidate Buy-in - The Audition looks like the job.
- Multiple Ratings - The Audition includes powerful simulations of multiple performance areas.
- Emotional Assessment - The Audition simulates the emotion felt on the job.
- Highly Consultative & Highly Automated - The Audition is designed for both accuracy and efficiency.
Select is utilizing VJA technology in a host of hiring scenarios - from entry level jobs to key executive positions. For example:
- Prospective sales associates interact with customers and demonstrate true sales skills through a Web-based “virtual reality” scenario.
- Call center applicants field “virtual” telephone calls from unhappy customers who are making unreasonable requests.
- Entry level manufacturing candidates monitor equipment, multitask on a production line and solve problems in a realistic industrial environment.
- Executive-level candidates are placed in a “virtual” office setting, where they respond to business issues that play on core competencies needed to be successful on the job. The candidates are asked to monitor their virtual in-box, respond to inquiries and field phone calls appropriately.
Virtual Job Auditions also employ live scenarios. In a factory situation, Select creates an actual production line where a prospective line worker must perform the tasks associated with the job. For other professions, prospective sales associates perform live sales calls and prospective managers are judged on their oral presentations.
“VJAs serve another important function for the employer,” noted Klinvex. “Candidates receive an accurate picture of what to expect if they are hired. If the job doesn’t appear to suit them, they can self-select out of the process. This can save a company tens of thousands of dollars by avoiding early turnover and absenteeism costs.”
