Web-based Technical
To test an applicant’s ability to understand basic mechanical concepts and relationships, Select International developed a BMAR assessment. BMAR (Basic Mechanical Aptitude and Reasoning) is a web-based assessment (also available as paper and pencil) that measures aptitude, rather than knowledge.
Benefits
The scoring and decision-making processes become faster and more efficient
because test results are automatically recorded in the SelecTrak Applicant
Tracking System. This enables companies to make better hiring and development
decisions in a timely manner.
Features
The BMAR is appropriate for assessing candidates for entry-level positions in
manufacturing, production, and process monitoring environments – wherever the
competency of Mechanical Reasoning is required for successful job performance.
It is also a useful tool to use when assessing as a personnel evaluation for
internal candidates who are being considered for promotion to maintenance
positions (e.g., an apprenticeship program).
Specifically, the following content domains are covered by the BMAR:
- Measurements
- Conversions
- Calculations
- Logical Reasoning
- Spatial Reasoning
- General Mechanical Knowledge

Which Golf Tournaments are the Best Tests of Player Ability?
This paper examines the concept of golf tournament validity. Applying psychometric testing theory to golf tournaments, it examines the tournament results from the entire 2004 PGA season. The study also measured the difficulty and discrimination of the tournaments, and explored the interaction between validity, difficulty, and discrimination.
