Development And Validation

It’s easy to claim that a test is useful and accurate, but Select International’s mechanical aptitude test and electrical aptitude test contain items that are highly relevant to entry-level production positions. In addition, each test is tailored for each client’s setting, using a content-validation approach.

Our approach to content validation includes the invaluable participation of job content experts. For each proposed item in the test, the experts rate the relevance and the probability of a correct answer. Items not rated as relevant by at least 75 percent of all experts are removed from further analysis.  The cutoff score is determined by calculating the average probability of correctly responding to all items that meet the 75 percent relevance requirement.

The resulting tests contain only job-relevant items of appropriate difficulty, for each client’s specific technical assessment needs.

Delivery And Scoring

Examiners administer the mechanical aptitude test and electrical aptitude test via the web or in paper-and-pencil format. The web-based platform calculates results automatically. With the paper-and-pencil delivery method, an examiner scores the tests by hand or sends them to Select International for scoring.
