A universal problem organizations face is finding and keeping employees who will be able to perform effectively and to help facilitate team and organizational success. This is often not as easy as it appears. According to the Society for Human Resources Management, the cost of a bad hire could cost up to five times the employee’s salary. This places a large burden on recruiting and HR teams to find and identify the best employees.
Several strategies are often used in the hiring process. One of the most widely used strategies in organizations is an interview. When done correctly, interviews can do an excellent job of differentiating between good and bad candidates. However, there is a lot of variance in how interviews are actually conducted within organizations. The degree of structure within an interview can dictate the accuracy of information gathered. Furthermore, we also know that one of the most common legal challenges organizations face is the result of an unstructured interview. Therefore, it is critical that organizations conduct structured, behavior-based interviewing.
The goal of this webinar will provide an overview of structured, behavior-based interviewing. Guidance will be provided on best practices of conducting an effective and fair interview. In particular, topics will include what type of information to gather, how to gather information, and how to evaluate skills in a standardized approach. Furthermore, special focus on legal considerations will be discussed. Overall, it is hoped that attendees will leave with an understanding of the basics of designing and implementing an effective, efficient, and standardized interviewing program.
